Minecraft Creator Markus Persson Begins Development on his next game, 0x10c

Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson has started work on another new game being called "0x10c", a supposed “Hard Science Fiction, space game”. Some listed features are as follows; Lots of engineering, Fully working (virtual) computer system, Space battles against AI or other players, Abandoned ships full of loot, Duct tape, Seamlessly landing on planets, An advanced economy system, Random encounters, Mining, trading and looting, and last but not least, a Single and Multiplayer experience via the multiverse. While anyone can speculate what he intends to do with this game, he has stated there is likely going to be a monthly fee for joining the multiverse as he plans to emulate all physics and computers even when players aren't logged in (Single player won't have recurring fees).

The game is still in very early development, but Markus plans to develop the game as he did with Minecraft, by releasing it early and letting the players help him shape the game as it grows. New Mineways software brings your Minecraft creations to life

New software called Mineways enables you to export your Minecraft creations into models and texture maps ready to send to a 3D printer. To do this, you'll need an exported world map from Minecraft with your favorite design inside. Using a birds-eye view, you can then select the area you want to print, save it as a model, and then send it over to a 3D printing service like Shapeways. It's not fool-proof, and your models might need some tweaking to work, but the software is pretty good at removing objects that are floating in space or impossible to construct. It will also hollow out the interior of your designs, preventing overuse of the raw material and lowering the cost. Other tools like Minecraft.print() have performed a similar task before now, but Mineways is the first to export with full color.

Developer Eric Haines uses a full-color model of the Eiffel tower based on his own design to illustrate the software, which is printed from sandstone at just under 5 inches tall, costing a little over $25. Mineways is free and open-source, and has been extensively documented — even down to instructions for best results from Shapeways. He says that results on a huge scale are possible (though this build is created using an alternative system), but don't expect ambition to come cheap. Jump after the break for the video.

Epic's New Game Fortnite Inspired by Minecraft

Epic's lead designer Lee Perry posted on his Twitter over the weekend that the freeform building in Fortnite will be a huge part of the game and will be like Minecraft.

"I see lots of questions asking if Fortnite is freeform construction. It is. It's not scripted or just boarding up existing structures," Perry wrote, "and it stands to reason if you can build a world, anything can be destroyed. That's about all I'm tossing out there for now." He added that "Minecraft was an inspiration for sure."

Still no information on a release date or platforms for release but the more I learn about this game the more exciting it sounds.

    Minecraft 1.0 Review

There are very few games on this earth that deserve such an in depth review as Minecraft. And as a tester for the last year, my accumulated time put into this game is arguably greater than any other experience. Using my experience and involvement in the community as a basis for a well rounded review, we are about to go on a journey that encompasses every aspect of the game. Where most reviews encompass the final product, that structure would not do Minecraft justice. Therefore, this review will not only account for the confirmed release that launched on November 18th, but also for the year and a half of testing and tweaking that shaped the game into the masterpiece that it is today.

Oh How Far You've Come; A Minecraft Story.

It seems like just yesterday that I first watched my friend play Minecraft. "You're such a hipster," I had said to him as I gazed at this obscure game; however, I saw the appeal. It was engrossing. Now, about 2 years after that fateful day, Minecraft has sold over 4 million copies of the Beta. So to Notch, and Mojang, for establishing a Niche in the gaming community, and becoming rich off a beta, we here at The Geek Domain congratulate you.

    Holiday Gaming (Our Picks)

This Holiday season is going to be a busy one for parents. The gaggle of games on the horizon is like a pack of ravenous, overly-expensive babysitters charging viciously at any unsuspecting mother or father or grandmother or aunt or uncle (Not Grandpa, he never does anything). Children this year are going to have their hands full... with a controller and nothing else to do but watch their grades slip and not give a hoot. In our newest podcast (November 6) we described the games that are to be released before the beginning of next year. Geek Domains Picks of Holiday Season 2011.

The Making of Scrolls: A Mojang Story

After the legal battle between Bethesda and Mojang, a new insight has been gleamed into the inner workings of  Markus 'Notch' Persson, and his Swedish gaming team 'Mojang' check out the video:

    First round goes to Notch!

When we last heard about the lawsuit, Bethesda talked about being forced into it in order to protect its trademark.  The suit ultimately led to an interim injunction, which has now been decided in Mojang's favor.

    Notch Tweeted earlier today:

We won the interim injunction!  We can keep using the name "Scrolls".  ZeniMax/Bethesda can still appeal the ruling, but I'm very happy. :D

If Bethesda does continue the suit, its ultimate goal would be to get Mojang to stop using the name Scrolls. In a later tweet, Notch added that "we haven't even considered any alternatives" for the game's name.

    Voxels and Polygons

Recently a company called "Euclideon" announced that they have been developing a graphics engine that will make polygons a thing of the past. They developed another Voxel renderer, and they claim theirs can allow for unlimited detail. This would mean screen clutter, draw distance and anything else that hinders FPS will no longer be a problem. However, Notch, developer of Minecraft has claimed in his Word of Notch that Euclideon is just pulling a Peter Molyneux. However if this Voexel engine they have created does what the "Snake oil salesman" says it does, then graphics are indeed in for a massive upgrade.

Minecraft: Terror is Re-Defined in 1.8

Let me just say: OMG, completely based off the /X/ meme "slenderman" Notch's "Endermen" are pictured above. These mobs are worse than creepers, they hit harder, are faster, and can teleport. AND they're passive. What?

Oh yes my friend, these creatures of the night will pick up blocks and place them randomly on the map until you look at them (or well your character looks at them) in which case the Endermen will .....stare back at you....they will continue this death gaze until you break eye contact, then these shades will run at you, if you outdistance them, they will teleport to within view distance and resume the chase. Once again, OMG

Heres the info from the big man himself: Notch
