Apple iOS 5.1 beta hints at new iPad in code

The first beta of iOS 5.1 is just now making its way to iPad, iPhone and iPod touch developers, and it's already given out some hints — namely, a string of code that references a brand new product, the "iPad 2,4". In case you're not familiar, Apple typically provides such product codenumbers in new releases of the software, though it's unlikely that the iPad 2,4 is a next-generation iPad 3. 9to5Mac, which found the digits, speculates that it probably refers to a soon-to-appear Sprint version of the existing machine. We'd like to think that the number-three US carrier would get a special nod from Apple, after risking $20 billion to make the iPhone 4S deal.

    Apple-1 HTC-0

Apple is victorious as they win a patent fight with HTC.

The patent dispute had to do with the way Apple gave their displays a "3-D" look. As we all know, HTC has their very own 3-D phone on the Sprint Network.

“Apple’s win strikes the first blow in its wide-ranging patent fight with HTC,” Says Mike Abramsky, an analyst at RBC Capital Markets in Toronto.

This win is huge, because this means two things.

    1. Apple will continue to operate as normal.

    2. They have a fighting chance.

HTC sold the most SmartPhones in the U.S in the third quarter, and with the holiday season coming up, Apple is sure to sell a ton of product this winter, and could come back in the 4th quarter.

Does Anyone else Feel Cheated? (iOS Update)

As many of you may know at this point, last Thursday Apple released their latest version of the iOS 5; iOS 5.0.1.

Like many other iPhone 4 users, I noticed a serious decline in my battery life after the release of iOS 5. The new update was suppose to help improve battery life for the all sucking (no pun intended) iOS. So far as a general user with most all location services turned off, my brightness down to the lower end of the spectrum, and a very rigorous charging schedule, I've noticed no improvements. It isn't just me though. Plenty of other people have noticed no increase in battery life, and are beginning to get frustrated.

"I charge my phone two times a day now" says Sean Burger, a co-worker and fellow tech enthusiast.

He's noticed the definite decline in his battery life, and shares the same concerns as I do; Is this going to be permanent? One of my most commonly used arguments for iPhone vs. Droid was superior battery life. I could go 10 hours constant use, and nearly 34 hours standby. With the new update, I'm lucky to get half that. Hopefully the geniuses figure out what's going on inside our phones, before the damage to not only the company, but my battery life, is irreversible.

For more information and details of the latest update, go to Galaxy Stocks.

iTunes Match getting close to launch?

While Apple launched iOS 5 and iCloud last week, the company pushed back the debut of its paid iTunes Match service in the United States until what they said would be the end of October. Apple appears to be moving closer to a launch of iTunes Match in the United States, as the Music section of the Settings app in iOS 5 has now gained a toggle for turning iTunes Match on and off. And with the end of October drawing near, a launch could be coming very soon.

Apple Rolls out iTunes 10.5, with iCloud support

As far as iTunes updates go this is a pretty big one.  Version 10.5 brings with it what Apple's calling iTunes in the Cloud, which allows for automatic downloads of purchases to your Mac or Windows computers and all of your iOS devices, as well as the ability to download previous purchases on said devices as many times as you want. It's not exactly a traditional cloud-based service, but you do always have access to all of your purchased media, regardless of the device (so long as it runs some form of iTunes). As expected, it also finally adds WiFi syncing for your iOS devices, although you'll still have to wait a bit longer for the iTunes Match service, it's slated to roll out closer to the end of the month. As usual, you can look for it in Apple's Software Update, or you can hit the link below to download it directly.

    iPhone 4S Pre-Orders exceed 1 million

Last year's iPhone 4 launch brought more than 600,000 pre-orders within the first 24 hours. This year, that number nearly doubled, topping one million within one day of the device's pre-order availability through AT&T, Sprint and Verizon. Those that haven't pre-ordered the iPhone 4S can line up at Apple stores beginning at 8 a.m. on October 14th, or you can try your luck at pre-ordering now, though you may need to wait an extra week or two to get your hands on Apple's new iOS smartphone. Jump past the break for Apple's PR.

Apple Announces iPhone 4S, iPhone 5 Swept Under The Rug

During the Apple press conference earlier today, the hot topic was the announcement of the iPhone 5... But as techno-paths have come to learn, rumors aren't always true, especially when you get your hopes up. (except Skyrim that game's hype is well deserved) The new phone, being hailed as the iPhone 4S will come with an overhauled 8 mega pixel camera,1080p hd video recording, A5 dual-core processor, improved antennas (Wi-Fi and cellular), improved battery, but the same exterior design Also Apple has been kind enough to include a voice activated robot slave girl named Siri... I'm kidding, well kind of. The voice activated task manager if you will, can help you remember things, schedule your meetings, and text while you drive, all by simply talking to it. I'll be really impressed when humanity evolves past that cliche' female robot voice, but for now Siri will do. Another addition to the iPhone 4S is

"Now a world phone, both GSM and CDMA customers will be able to roam freely on GSM network"
The phone comes loaded with iOS 5, and is compatible with Apple's Cloud storage. So what do you think? iPhone 4S get it? or Skip it?

iOS 5 shows off more features as the beta gets out.

There were the main points of the keynote last week at the World Wide Developer's Conference, but many other features are now reering their heads as more and more developers get their hands on the beta version.  Some of the key features that were not talked about are listed below:

  • Apple has added the ability to make FaceTime calls over 3G -- though rumor has it that this may be a beta-only feature, which carriers can choose to disable, over obvious data usage concerns.
  • AirPlay Mirroring has been shown off. The feature lets users display video from an iPad 2 on an HDTV, by way of Apple TV, for those times when you just can't keep your tablet content to yourself.
  • The new software also offers up the ability to sync 1080p video to iOS 5 devices, opening the door to speculation that future iPads and iPhones may be able to play back content at full 1080p.
  • Like to play your iTunes over your car stereo? Good news, iOS 5 will transfer audio information like album, track, and artist names over Bluetooth.

WWDC delivers with outstanding results, OSX Lio, iOS 5, iCloud

Apple set the feeds a flutter with new additions to their operating systems.  New features in OSX include: Full screen apps, new mail integration, App folders much like iOS, and mouch more.  The additions to iOS make it unnecessary to jailbreak.  They have added a notifier similar to Android as well as a iMessage much like BBM, as well as lock screen info, and twitter integration with native apps.  The final was iCloud with the ability to sync all data (Photos, Apps, Docs, Mail, Contacts, Music) to the cloud servers.  And best of all, its free.  Also, the addition of iTunes Match which will sync all your non-iTunes purchased music to the cloud as well.  For a more detailed coverage of the preceding news, use each link below to pop over to Thisismynext.com

Apple recruiting Dev Team and MobileNotifier developer Peter Hajas?

Anyone who has ever jailbroken their iPhone knows about MobileNotifier.  Chances are, it is why you jailbroke your phone to begin with.  Well, sources have it that since Apple knows their notification sytem in iOS sucks royally, why not enlist the help of the man who figured out how to fix it? I mean, if you're Apple and a large number of your customer base is voiding their warranties to install this man's app, your best bet would be to higher him when you are ready to add something in likeness , rather than compete with him.  As a comsumer and iPhone user, I say bravo! This constitues a brilliant move on the part of Apple and can only help us as consumers.
