BF3 Update Engage! (Battlefield 3 update Coming Soon)

I myself have begun to wonder when the update would soon be released for Battlefield 3.

With all this talk of Skyrim, it seems everyone has put down their favorite FPS (First Person Shooter) and had themselves a week of Skyrim. Now the hype has died down though, and everyone seems to be reverting back to the violence of the future worlds.

While playing BF3, I have not noticed any major flaws (like in the beta), and wondered what they really could improve upon.

Apparently, there were a quite a few more picky people than me, and DICE has heard their words.

The patch will improve "...polish, stability, weapons balancing, squad control functionality, user interface enhancements, and several feature enhancements that address feedback the community has provided to date." Also, the patch will fix the "negative mouse acceleration".

To me, this all sounds like standard stuff, and I wouldn't expect too many changes within the game.

I would expect the PC patch as soon as next week, and shortly after for consoles.

For more information on the patch, head on over to the Battlefield website.

Xbox "720" Development Kits Being Sent to Developers

A rough "target box" for the successor to the Xbox 360 has already been sent to game developers to start working on games for the reported launch of a new console late next year. Reported by EDGE, Ubisoft Montreal and certain EA developers are working with these "target boxes" which are based on the intended specs for the Xbox 360's successor. Delivery of the actual "devkits" are supposed to reach studios before Christmas which will house custom software for the console and will be built to the suspected specs. This all points to the speculation that a new Microsoft console could be hitting the shelves for the holiday season in 2012.

    EA's President Confirms Battlefield 4

EA President Frank Gibeau during a keynote at the University of Southern California confirmed that-

"There is going to be a Battlefield 4"

While this isn't shocking in any way, after Battlefield 3's release becoming the fastest selling video game release in EA's history, it still is a substantial statement. Later in the day an official statement was released by EA to IGN, EA Stated

"Frank was speaking broadly about the Battlefield brand - a brand that EA is deeply passionate about and a fan community that EA is committed to."

Basically what the clarification means is that the next release might not necessarily be a "Battlefield" game but it could be one of there other Battlefield franchises like Bad Company, 1943, or something else entirely.

    Review: Battlefield 3

On Monday October 24 I waited in line for EA and Dice’s Battlefield 3 to launch. I was on the fence on this game, sure it looked amazing, the beta was fun albeit full of problems, and I wasn’t sure if I would want to start a game with Skyrim only a few weeks away. But I was convinced by a friend and fellow writer Jon Jacobson who had already pre-ordered and was heading over to wait in line. So I said “what the heck I’ll do it” and we were off to the nearest GameStop to await the highly anticipated Battlefield 3. After I put the disk in, and started to play, I was not disappointed. Ill start on the one part of the game that no one else seemed to like…

Next Generation XBOX launching in 2013!

    IGN.com reported today:

While previous rumors hinted at a 2012 reveal for the next Xbox, new reports indicate that it may be held off until 2013. Develop has heard from multiple industry sources, including chip manufacturers and middleware firms, that the console's reveal will come at E3 2013, with a late 2013 launch to follow.

The launch would likely be simultaneous for all territories, but that doesn't necessarily rule out a 2014 release in some countries. The initial launch is expected to come by the 2013 holiday season, but few analysts expect it to come any earlier than that.

Develop also reports on several other rumors that lend credibility to an upcoming console launch. Namely that Lionhead Studios is currently working on a project known internally as Fable Next, which is expected to launch on a new console. Another source reports that EA has rudimentary next-generation console technology already (which EA has denied).

For now, all of these are rumors, and Microsoft has declined to comment on any of them. If a new console does launch in late 2013, it would coincide with the predicted 2014 release Unreal Engine 4.

    Battlefield 3 Beta: LAST DAY

Today marks the last day for the Battle Field 3 Beta.  Many people were excited, and disappointed with how the beta had turned out.  Even our very own Josh James complained the first day how the Xbox 360 servers were down.

The important thing to remember here though, is that the beta does not represent the final version of the game.  The good people of EA are still fine-tuning small features, which will surely make all the difference in the retail version of the game, to be released October 25, 2011

Follow the link to pre-order you very own copy of BF3,  and watch exciting clips of the beta.

    Battlefield 3: Here's an Open Beta.......Not

Battlefield's open Beta launched for preorders earlier this week, and the open beta for the rest of us started today, well unless if you have an Xbox 360. The 360's servers have been down all day, and people are fuming! I was able to get in for a couple rounds before the servers went down and the bug's were reason enough for the servers to die. We had players flying through the air after vaulting an obstacle, or going prone and falling through the map. C'mon EA.

    Battlefield 3 Beta Opens Today!!

The Battlefield 3 beta opens today for those who pre-ordered the PC game through Origin, EA's digital distribution platform, and for those who purchased the Limited Edition of Medal of Honor.  Josh Will have a full review of this beta on our next podcast.

Keys, granting access to the beta, will be sent out by EA from early afternoon onwards.

Gustav Halling, gameplay designer, had this to say:

Please don't ask about 'when do I get my email' etc.  We don't know, this is an automated system that sends a bunch out every hour starting around lunch today."

Keys will be sent out from "around 1pm-3pm CET on PC and Xbox 360," said Battlefield community manager Daniel Matros (12pm-2pm in the UK).

If you don't have a code, you'll have to patiently wait for Thursday, 29 September, when the beta will go public. The beta will feature the map Operation Metro, and it will close on October 10.

Battlefield 3 is out on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on October 25 in the US and October 28 in the UK.
