'The Walking Dead' Returns Tomorrow Night

As many of you know, the second half of season two of 'The Walking Dead' takes place where it last left off tomorrow night, February 12, at 9/8c. This zombie-drama or "Zombama" as we've called it before left us hanging from a cliff in the latest episode and it has been painful waiting on the second half of season two. There are so many side stories left to conclude, along with the one huge question that we all are dying to have answered. It would be a shame for it to be spoiled so, if you haven't had the chance to catch every episode, AMC is having a 'The Walking Dead' marathon tonight starting at 8/7c.

The Walking Dead: Season 2, Part 1 Review (SPOILERS!)

And so it comes to pass, that AMC’s The Walking Dead ends not with a whimper, but a bang. The season that started very slow, exploring the emotions felt with having been thrust into a post-epidemic zombie apocalypse resolved with an unexpected death, and an emotionally charged resolution. Season 2 was a change of pace from the heart pounding chases and drama associated with Season 1, which was chock-full of action around every corner.

'The Walking Dead' Season 2 premier breaks records

Last night's Season 2 premiere episode of AMC's 'The Walking Dead' delivered more adults in the 18-49 demograpic (and 25-54) than any other basic cable drama in TV history.  With 7.3 total million viewers (11 million total for the night), the episode "What Lies Ahead" drew in about 36-38% more than the Season 1 average.

    AMC's President, Charlie Collier said,

The Walking Dead is one of those rare television programs that reaches both a core genre fan as well as broad audiences simply looking for a great, character-based story. We're so proud of and grateful for the amazing team on both sides of the camera who works so hard and is so committed to making this a unique programming event.  That The Walking Dead is now the most watched drama in the history of basic cable is staggering, just like our zombies.

AMC will split up The Walking Dead's Second Season into two parts

A chunk of bad news for fans of AMC's series The Walking Dead.  The studio has decided to split the second season of the hit TV drama into two parts with the first seven episodes airing over seven consecutive Sundays starting October 16. That will take the series through November 27. After that, we will not see a new episode until February 12, meaning that December and January will be zombie free.

Most of us, including me, hate split seasons, it costs the studios marketing dollars by lack of viewers and and can disrupt the flow of the storyline.  Many people will forget the story as well as potential new viewers will be lost.

But if you look at it from AMC's point of view, December is a vacation month for many and TV becomes stale.  Also, because of the chosen night for the show, Sundays in January belong to football, and although many would DVR the show, that will not bring in ad revenue.

The pluses and minuses still do not change the fact that I am irritated over the break, but geek rage never got anyone very far.  It is what it is.  I will watch no matter what.
